After little to no sleep and an excruciatingly grueling slog in Memorial Day traffic on I-95 to get to Richmond plus a failed attempt at a nap, Ann and I got dressed to go to the family get-together. The drive to Marianne's house just outside the city was easy; her neighborhood is beautiful and quiet.
This was my first real chance to meet and speak with Jolshua. We met for the briefest of encounters in 2022 at Lillie's medical school graduation in Philadelphia. [I cannot believe that Lillie is finished with residency now and will be starting a new job at the Medical College of Virginia also in Richmond in July.]
Ultimately, after a long trip from the Orlando area, Jolshua's family, the Rosados, arrived. Ann and I got to meet them as we enjoyed the gorgeous weather in Marianne's back yard that backs on to woods and a drainage pond, a beautiful setting for Saturday's wedding. The entire time we were outside, a constant parade of birds fed at the various feeders in the yard. We have almost none of these birds in Oregon.
Jolshua and Ellie arranged for dinner: tabouleh, tzatziki, falafel, chicken kebabs, and fatayer, triangular samosa-like pastries filled with beef, onions, and I think I tasted a bit of mint. I got a chuckle out of the amount of tzatziki the caterer provided for about a dozen people, at least a gallon.
Around dark, Ann and I excused ourselves to head back into town and try to get some sleep before the wedding on Saturday.
