The day of Jolshua and Ellie's wedding found me groggy but excited. It's not every day that a person's daughter gets married. After another sleepless night thanks to the rampaging motorcycles in downtown Richmond, I had no choice but to down a bunch of espresso, suck it up, and show up for my daughter. To be honest, it was pretty much like going to work dead tired in the restaurant business.

Ellie's Dress is Just Stunning |
Ann and I were told in no uncertain terms that we needed to be there at 1:30 for the 2:00 ceremony and so we were, ten minutes early even. But then drama: we were forbidden see the bride as she dressed in the very public downstairs sunroom with her sister and the photographer at her side. After swearing we would not peek, we got admitted to the house and I went out back to amuse myself with the flowers and the birds.

Finally, we all got the signal to be seated out back, that all the obligatory pre-wedding photos were taken and both the bride and the groom were ready for the ceremony.

My Jaw Dropped |
I may be the biased proud father, but Ellie's dress was stunning and elegantly simple. I am surprised how much things have changed since I got married: she bought the dress off of Etsy from a highly talented Polish dressmaker. The Internet has changed everything it seems.
Nick did a great job with the ceremony. Ellie is not the most vocal of people and I do not believe that anyone other than Jolshua heard her vows, despite being only mere feet from her. But, then, he's the only one that needed to hear them. Immediately after the ceremony came 45 minutes of photos. I was happy that they hired a photographer so that I could concentrate on candids.

I Knew This Photo Was Special as Soon as I Pressed the Shutter |
After the ceremony and my part in the photos, I got shanghaied to the kitchen to help assemble a couple of charcuterie plates. Ellie and Jolshua each made a pitcher of cocktails to go with the charcuterie. That seems to be a thing these days: his and hers cocktails. I'm a beer and wine guy more than a cocktail guy and found a Corona with my name on it.
Jolshua had made reservations at a nearby steakhouse for a celebratory dinner, so at dinner time, we piled into cars and headed there. Pedro made a great speech and Ellie thanked me for not following suit, though I was prepared to do so. After dinner, the young folks wanted to go out drinking at a bar or bars near our B&B. Exhausted, Ann and I begged off (also who wants the parents being a third wheel anyway?) but dropped part of the crew at a bar on the way to the B&B.
